Authors Ask to Update Meta AI Copyright Suit With Torrent Claim

Authors in a putative class action copyright suit against Meta Platforms Inc. asked a federal judge for permission to amend their complaint to add a claim over Meta’s use of peer-to-peer file-sharing unveiled in discovery.

The plaintiffs began their suit “in the dark about how Meta obtained” the infringed works to train its large language model, but Meta produced “consequential evidence” of its torrenting activity in discovery weeks ago, the authors said in a motion filed Thursday.
