Hundreds of millions of federal dollars will be on the line at the Ninth Circuit Friday, when the Trump administration asks the panel to reject a lower court’s order requiring its agencies to keep funding University of California research grants.
A proposed class of researchers allege the administration’s withholding of funding is its way of suppressing their views on gender, race, and diversity. Judge Rita F. Lin’s temporary injunction requires six agencies — including the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health — to maintain research grants at UC schools.
