Womble Bond Dickinson said Monday it hired 20 attorneys from Neal & Harwell in Nashville as the latter firm prepares to close.

Eighteen of the attorneys joined Womble’s business litigation group and two will do finance, bankruptcy and restructuring work, the firm said in a statement. Fifteen of the lawyers are partners.

“From individuals to Fortune 500 companies, this group has served a diverse client base,” Josh Mullen, managing partner of the Nashville operation, said in the statement. “Their collaborative nature and civic leadership will strengthen our office.”

Neal & Harwell is closing at the end of the month after a 54-year run, according to a firm spokesperson. Firm co-founder Aubrey Harwell left in May to join Adams & Reese. Co-founder James Neal died in 2010.

The Womble additions in Nashville, where it opened an office in 2022, are part of the firm’s growth plans. It announced last September a merger with Lewis Roca, which became effective in January. The combined firm now has more than 1.300 attorneys across 37 offices in the US and UK.
