Willkie Farr & Gallagher has hired another partner from Jenner & Block just two weeks after the Wall Street firm launched a Chicago office led by Craig Martin, the former chairman of that Windy City litigation firm.
Michael Babbitt, an intellectual property partner with experience before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, joined Willkie, the firm said in a statement on Wednesday. The new office already lists seven partners, nine counsel, and five associates.
Martin, who served as Jenner’s chair for about a year, moved to Willkie in a high-profile group departure last month that included five other partners.
“I am thrilled to welcome Michael to our diverse and growing team,” Martin—who holds the title Chairman, Midwest at Willkie— said in a statement. “He brings even more trial heft to our group and will further enhance Willkie’s offerings to its Midwest and national clients.”
Babbitt is a registered patent attorney and is co-chair of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board Bar Trials Committee. He has handled cases in front of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, obtaining reversals of a district court jury verdict and a PTAB decision, the firm said.
“Willkie’s collegial culture and tradition of working together has been evident as I have gotten to know the firm and the people,” Babbitt said. “The opportunity to help grow the Chicago office, and in particular the PTAB practice, is thrilling.”
