Online Asian supermarket Weee! Inc. defeated a proposed class action alleging it negligently failed to protect the personal information of thousands of consumers that was exposed in a February 2023 data breach.
The claims of Helen Jia and three other plaintiffs didn’t support federal jurisdiction because they didn’t arise under federal law or fit within the “special and small category” of cases where state-law claims embedding federal ones gave rise to federal jurisdiction, Judge Paul A.
