Walmart Inc. isn’t liable for a nearly $100 million award to a class of more than 50,000 employees for alleged violations of California wage statement rules, according to a Ninth Circuit ruling Friday.

Roderick Magadia, the lead plaintiff and class representative, lacked standing to bring a meal break claim on behalf of the state because he hadn’t suffered any injury himself, the panel said. And while he had standing to bring his other pay stub claims, they failed because Walmart hadn’t violated the law.
