Welcome to Bloomberg Law’s Wake Up Call, a daily rundown of the top news for lawyers, law firms, and in-house counsel.
- Texas researcher Lindsey Olson filed two lawsuits accusing multiple defense attorneys—and the federal government—of illegally using her copyrighted jury bias study in efforts to move Jan. 6 trials out of Washington. Olson claims lawyers “pirated” her 26-page 2022 report, valued at $30,000 per case, to argue that DC jurors were too biased to hear Capitol riot cases, without paying licensing fees. (CBS News)
- Maj. Gen. Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, until recently Israel’s top military lawyer, was arrested after admitting she leaked a video showing Israeli soldiers sexually assaulting a Palestinian detainee. Following her resignation, she briefly went missing, prompting a national search before being found alive on a Tel Aviv beach. Tomer-Yerushalmi is now under investigation for fraud, breach of trust, and obstruction of justice. (Associated Press)
- Dorsey & Whitney has opened a new office in Chicago, its 22nd worldwide, marking a major expansion into one of the nation’s growing competitive legal markets. The firm added five partners—Domingo P. Such, Lucy K. Park, Mitch Meneau, Jose A. Lopez, and Geoffrey A. Vance—who work in family office and trust and estate planning, commercial litigation, securities litigation, and government investigations. (Dorsey)
