Welcome to Bloomberg Law’s Wake Up Call, a daily rundown of the top news for lawyers, law firms, and in-house counsel.

  • ABC accused the FCC in a filing Friday of violating the television network’s free speech rights, an aggressive move that could kick-off a high-stakes legal battle with the Trump administration. The company’s filing was signed by experienced Supreme Court litigator Paul Clement. (New York Times)
  • Leadership changes are coming to Norton Rose Fulbright and HWL Ebsworth. Norton Rose’s new head of Australia, Marshall Bromwich, is based in Brisbane instead of Sydney or Melbourne. Meanwhile, accountant Kris Hopkins will remain sole chief executive of HWL Ebsworth, transitioning the firm away from its previous “co-pilot” model. (Financial Review)
  • There will be probable cause for chuckles at the fourth annual Good Laughs all-lawyer stand-up comedy show. The sold out May 21 event will be held at Comedy Bar Danforth in Toronto and features lawyers from some of Canada’s largest law firms. Proceeds will benefit the Michael Garron Hospital.
