- Tom Thomas will be the first general counsel of cancer treatment biotech
- Company went public in 2020 following merger with blank check company
Cancer treatment company Vincerx Pharma Inc. has hired Tom Thomas from Pilllsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman as its first general counsel and chief legal officer.
Thomas will assume the new role March 15 after nearly two decades with Pillsbury, the newly-public Vincerx announced Tuesday.
Vincerx, which changed its name from Vincera Pharma Inc. on Jan. 7, began trading the prior month after Vincera and LifeSci Acquisition Corp. combined to create the new company. The deal raised $62 million for Vincerx, based in Palo Alto, Calif.
Thomas’ firm, Pillsbury, advised Vincera on the deal with LifeSci, a special purpose acquisition company.
Thomas and Vincerx did not respond to a request for comment on Thomas’ hire.
Vincerx also announced the additions of Hermes Garbán and Hans-Georg Lerchen as chief medical officer and chief scientific officer, respectively.
“This group’s combined decades of medical, scientific and legal acumen across biotech will be key as we work towards advancing our pipeline of targeted oncology therapeutics,” Vincerx CEO Ahmed Hamdy said in a statement.
Before joining Pillsbury in 2003, Thomas was an associate and later partner at Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly for over 16 years.
