The US audit board chair pledged Tuesday that the regulator would hold a roundtable in 2024 to discuss a sweeping proposal requiring auditors to dig deeper into corporate wrongdoing.
Lawmakers during a House Financial Services subcommittee hearing pressed Erica Williams, the chair of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, on the draft rule that they said could weaken corporate audits and turn auditors into law enforcement officers.
“We’ve got accountants and auditors leaving the field and I don’t want to make them police officers. They’re auditors,” said Rep.
