The Trump administration cannot withhold billions of dollars in federal grant funding to the University of California in an effort to purge what they call “woke” viewpoints at leading universities, a federal judge ruled.
Trump’s “coercive and retaliatory” conduct in California is part of an attempt to bring universities “to their knees” by “forcing them to change their ideological tune,” said Judge Rita F. Lin of the US District Court for the Northern District of California as she granted the plaintiffs’ motion for a preliminary injunction.
The case is Am. Assoc. of Univ. Professors v. Trump, 2025 BL 409961, N.D. Cal., No. 25-cv-07864, order 11/14/25
