A federal judge Monday ordered the Department of Government Efficiency and several federal agencies to stop centralizing citizens’ data from across the government as part of an effort to implement President Donald Trump’s executive order on federal elections.

The government’s changes to the Department of Homeland Security database used to verify citizenship and immigration status—the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements system—violated the Social Security Act, the federal Privacy Act, and the Administrative Procedure Act, Judge Sparkle L. Sooknanan of the US District Court for the District of Columbia said.
