Trader Viterra to Buy Deforestation-Free Soy With Bayer’s Help

Glencore Plc-backed crop trader Viterra Inc. plans to purchase low-carbon raised, deforestation-free soybeans in Argentina with the help of Bayer AG.

Purchases will start in 2024 and account for about 6% of all Argentina’s soy area in the first year of the deal, Bayer executives Juan Farinati and Fábio Passos said in an interview. The German seed giant will work with 300 Argentine farmers to certify the soybeans, which will fetch a premium to normal market rates.
