TikTok Likely to Face Class Suit Over Children’s Data Collection

TikTok Inc. will likely have to defend against consumer claims that it collected and used children’s data without parental consent, a federal court said in a tentative ruling.

The consumers showed they suffered concrete injuries that establish standing to sue in federal court, Judge George H. Wu of the US District Court for the Central District of California said Wednesday. They adequately pleaded claims of intrusion upon seclusion, negligence, unjust enrichment, invasion of privacy under the California Constitution, and violations of the New York Civil Rights Law and the unfair-competition statutes of seven states.
