Rakesh Kilaru, a 40-year-old partner at Washington’s Wilkinson Stekloff, had a lead role negotiating a nearly $2.8 billion settlement announced Thursday night that could forever change the face of US college sports.
The proposed deal, which involved dozens of lawyers from nearly a dozen law firms, resolves antitrust litigation filed against the National Collegiate Athletic Association and its five major conferences by current and former college athletes, who now stand to be compensated directly from schools for their on-the-field efforts after years of mounting demands for fair pay.
