When Scott Barshay , a top M&A partner at Cravath, Swaine & Moore, announced he would join Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, the important question that nobody seemed to be asking was: How did his brother feel about it?
Yes, Barshay has a brother: Lawrence N. Barshay , a corporate partner at the law firm Fried, Frank, Harris Shriver & Jacobson. He heads up the firm’s asset management practice, specializing in the structuring and representation of investment funds and other alternative investments, according to his online biography.
Big Law Business reached out to the two brothers, but they declined to participate in our side-by-side comparison. Here’s what we know from publicly available information, though: Both graduated law school the same year, 1991 — Scott from Columbia Law School and Larry from New York University School of Law. Scott and Larry made partner at Cravath and Fried Frank in 1998 and 1999, respectively.
Scott’s marquee client roster? The likes of H.J. Heinz, Honeywell, IBM, and Anheuser-Busch InBev. Larry’s? JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs Asset Management and Morgan Stanley.
Doesn’t get much more “crème de la crème” than that.
I mean, if one were making comparisons, these guys would be the Eli and Peyton Manning of Big Law. Or at least the Owen and Luke Wilson of Comedy. Ben and Casey Affleck?... Okay, well we’ll stop there and let you make your own analysis.
One thing is for sure, though. With Scott’s new photograph at Paul Weiss, it’s bound to put the pair in the running for BuzzFeed’s next “20 Hottest Set of Famous Brothers” ranking.
