Viasat Defends $4 Billion Inmarsat Deal on SpaceX Criticism (2)

Viasat Inc. defended its proposed purchase of Inmarsat Group Holdings Ltd. as rival SpaceX called on US regulators to deny the $4 billion transaction.

“Viasat has previously refuted SpaceX’s baseless claims at length,” Jessica Packard, a Viasat spokeswoman, said in an email. “There is nothing new here.”

Earlier, SpaceX in a filing said Viasat improperly uses airwaves meant for low-Earth orbit satellites for signals from high-orbit satellites, and asked the Federal Communications Commission to deny the deal. Elon Musk’s Space Exploration Technologies Corp. operates a fleet of low-orbiting satellites for its Starlink system.
