Snap Seeks Dismissal of New Mexico Child-Exploitation Lawsuit

New Mexico’s lawsuit alleging that Snap Inc. facilitated child sexual exploitation through the design features of its Snapchat platform is riddled with patently false factual allegations and is procedurally defective and insufficiently pleaded, the company said in a court filing.

The state’s September lawsuit contains sensational allegations that the company immediately connected a dummy account set up by investigators for a fictitious 14-year-old girl with inappropriate or illicit accounts without any affirmative steps from the “user,” Snap said in a motion to dismissfiled in the First Judicial District Court for the County of Santa Fe.
