Simpson Thacher & Bartlett steered Blackstone Inc. in its proposed purchase of Australian data-center operator AirTrunk in a deal valuing the company at A$24 billion ($16.1 billion).
New York-based Blackstone, along with Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, is buying AirTrunk from Macquarie Group Ltd. and PSP Investments, according to a Wednesday statement from the firms.
The Simpson Thacher team is led by New York M&A partners Anthony King and Samuel Rudik and Hong Kong banking and credit partner Makiko Harunari.
All three lawyers have previously guided Blackstone in various transactions, including its $6.3 billion acquisition of Crown Resorts, $6 billion acquisition of Home Partners of America, and a $5.56 billion sale of the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
Simpson Thacher is among Big Law’s top dealmakers, whose lawyers advised on $106.1 billion worth of mergers and acquisitions transactions in the first half of this year.
The acquisition is Blackstone’s biggest-ever in the Asia-Pacific region.
