Sidley Snags SEC Attorney Barros for Governance Issues Work (1)

Sidley Austin LLP has hired former U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission lawyer Sonia Barros as a partner in Washington, D.C.

Barros join Sidley’s Global Capital Markets group, advising clients on corporate disclosure, governance, and capital-raising efforts, according to a firm statement. She’ll chair a new public company subgroup.

“If businesses are doing well, it’s not only good for the businesses, it’s also good for the overall economy,” she said.

Barros joins Sidley after spending 17 years at the SEC, most recently as chief corporate governance counsel in the Division of Corporation Finance. She also was assistant director of the SEC’s ...
