Sidley Austin LLP has added three healthcare transactional partners—Ankur Gupta, Sam Wales and Benjamin Kirschner—from McDermott Will & Emery to its global M&A and private equity practice.
Associate Krista Kay Lewis has also joined Sidley from McDermott, where Gupta led the global healthcare real estate practice, the firm said in a statement.
The four hires “will enhance our ability to represent healthcare providers and investors on transactional matters, both domestically and abroad, which is an important strategic focus for the firm,” said Dan Clivner, global co-leader of Sidley’s M&A and private equity practice.
Sidley has been beefing up its healthcare transactional, private equity and real estate capabilities. Earlier this month, the firm landed Asher Rubin and Adriana Tibbitts, both from Hogan Lovells, for its global life sciences industry practice, one of the legal areas forecast to grow rapidly this year.
Rubin, who had been co-lead of Hogan Lovells global life sciences industry practice, has represented major companies such as molecular diagnostics company Exact Sciences Corp., and biopharmaceutical company Galera Therapeutics Inc.
Gupta, who worked for McDermott for more than nine years and, before that, for Winston & Strawn, has represented both private and public healthcare companies as well as real estate and financial institutions, private equity firms, investment banks and family offices in major healthcare-related real estate and other transactions.
Wales has represented private equity funds, as well as publicly-traded and privately-held companies, in M&A, joint ventures, and healthcare-related transactions. His work has included leveraged buyouts of public and private companies, divestitures, recapitalizations and venture capital investments.
Kirschner has experience working on domestic and international transactional real estate matters. Lewis has represented private equity, investment funds, and privately held companies in connection with domestic and cross-border transactions including mergers, stock and asset sales, acquisitions, venture capital investments, and restructurings.
In addition to the McDermott team, Sidley earlier expanded its M&A and private equity practice with several experienced hires, including Frank Rahmani from Cooley.
