Sanctions, Fee Upheld Against Chicago Lawyer by Seventh Circuit

Sanctions against a Chicago lawyer involved in an alleged assault against opposing counsel after a “heated deposition” have been affirmed.

While the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit affirmed the imposition of sanctions and a fee against attorney Caryn Shaw, the court vacated the cases against two other co-counsels in the case.

In the underlying matter, plaintiffs’ attorneys Shaw and Donald Villar met in 2017 at the board’s office building to depose the board’s chief of security, wrote Judge Candace R. Jackson-Akiwumi. The deponent was represented by Lisa Dreishmire, the board’s assistant deputy general counsel.
