Former White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus will move just a few blocks down Pennsylvania Ave. to the Washington office of his old firm Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, the Wisconsin-based firm announced Oct. 25.

Priebus will take on the roles of president and chief strategist, and chair of the board of advisors for its consulting firm Michael Best Strategies LLC, the firm said in a release Oct. 25. The firm also confirmed that Priebus will be part of the Washington Speakers Bureau, a Washington-based speaker’s circuit.

Priebus resigned from his White House role in July, after President Donald Trump announced on Twitter that John Kelly would replace him as chief of staff.

Priebus was “looking forward to this homecoming” and “excited to rejoin the firm in a full-time capacity to lead its growth,” he said in a prepared statement. He will use what he’s learned in Washington to improve the firm, he said.

Trump congratulated Priebus about his move on Twitter, saying Priebus is “a really good and talented man.”

Priebus’ bio on the Washington Speaker’s Bureau website touts his ability to explain “not only what happened to the party in the last few elections, but previews where it’s going as the 2018 midterms approach.”

Priebus, a Wisconsin native, was a partner at Michael Best in its Milwaukee office for nearly 13 years, according to the firm. Priebus became the chairman of the Republican National Committee in 2011 and served in that capacity until he was commissioned to oversee the White House for the Trump administration in 2017.

He officially left Michael Best at the end of 2016, when he received a $450,000 equity buyout, a $50,000 bonus, and $96,408 from his capital account, according to a financial disclosure form released in March.

He was the longest-serving chairman of the Republican Party, his biography on the firm’s website said.

Michael Best has most frequently represented clients like broadcast Music Inc., Experian Information Solutions Inc., and Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals Inc. in the past five years, according to a Bloomberg Law analysis. Almost 15 percent of the firm’s work has been copyright-related work, followed by patent cases, and trademark cases, which made up 13.5 percent and 10.8 percent of the firms work, respectively.

As a partner at Michael Best, Priebus defended clients like Quanta Services Inc., a Texas-based contractor that provides services to electric, oil and gas industries in the U.S. and internationally; Old Republic Insurance Company, a Pennsylvania-based insurance company; and Arby Construction Inc., a Wisconsin construction company.

Priebus did not respond to Big Law Business request for comment.
