Debevoise & Plimpton LLP filed a lawsuit under the Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act to transfer domain names with its trademark to its ownership, according to a Virginia federal court.
Debevoise claims that the domain name is being used without permission in a scheme to imitate the firm and its attorneys, according to a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. The domain name’s registrant, who hasn’t been identified, allegedly sends emails claiming to be actual Debevoise attorneys in an attempt to steal money or information, the complaint said.
