OpenAI Sued for Denying Nonprofit Discount to Christian Group

OpenAI Inc. illegally discriminated against a Texas Christian organization that encourages “biblical principles of sexuality” when the AI firm canceled its 20% nonprofit discount for the organization’s ChatGPT subscription, a Wednesday lawsuit alleged.

The complaint filed in California federal court by the Christian legal advocacy firm Alliance Defending Freedom seeks a court order striking OpenAI’s policy that blocks religious organizations from receiving the nonprofit discount.

OpenAI and its nonprofit verification partner called Goodstack “engaged in intentional, malicious, and outrageous religious discrimination against” the organization Holy Sexuality, a Christian ministry that educates teenagers about the Bible’s view on human sexuality.
