The New York City Police Department is constantly watching and tracking New Yorkers, in violation of their constitutional rights, according to a new lawsuit.
The complaint in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York seeks to put a stop to the NYPD’s use of the Domain Awareness System, described as “a voyeuristic policing platform” that uses video camera, tracking, biometric, electronic monitoring, and social media surveillance to monitor people who live in or enter the city.
People of color, Muslims, and immigrants are subject to heightened surveillance, the complaint says.
