Norfolk Southern Settles US Claims on Ohio Train Derailment (1)

Norfolk Southern Corp. agreed to a settlement valued at about $310 million to resolve most outstanding US government claims and investigations into the toxic derailment of one of its trains in East Palestine, Ohio, last year.

The railroad will pay a $15 million civil penalty for alleged violations of the Clean Water Act under the agreement, the US Department of Justice and the Environmental Protection Agency said in a joint statement on Thursday.
