NiSource Board Sued by Pension Fund Over Huge Pipeline Explosion

A pension fund sued current and former members of NiSource Inc.'s board in Delaware, blaming their indifference to years of red flags for a series of pipeline explosions that killed one, started 141 fires, and forced 30,000 people to evacuate three Massachusetts towns in 2018.

The lawsuit, made public late Tuesday in Delaware Chancery Court, seeks to hold the board members “responsible for their illegal business decisions, inactions and failures of oversight,” which allegedly caused a “foreseeable and preventable tragic event” that has cost NiSource more than $1 billion.
