New York regulators on Wednesday released the first step of creating the state’s anticipated program to charge companies for their greenhouse gas emissions and then cap those emissions over time.
The draft Mandatory Greenhouse Gas Reporting rule proposes greenhouse gas reporting requirements for electricity generators, landfills, and other facilities emitting more than 10,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year, according to a press release from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The draft rule covers 2026 emissions, with reports due in June 2027.
