New York Fines Delta Dental for Lapses Leading to Data Breach

Delta Dental will pay $2.25 million to New York state after allegations that inadequate policies and procedures led to the to theft of sensitive private information of consumers.

An investigation by the New York State Department of Financial Services found that the company’s cybersecurity program didn’t comply with department regulations for data protection.

  • The action stems from an incident in 2023 where hackers exploited weaknesses in a software service called MOVEit to steal information such as names, addresses, social security numbers, driver’s license numbers and financial information, according to the state department.
