New York Doctor Charged for Kickbacks in Brain Scan Scheme

A New York doctor was charged for allegedly receiving kickbacks in exchange for ordering medically unnecessary brain scans, the Justice Department announced Wednesday.

According to the DOJ, Dr. Kenneth Fishberger, an internist in Long Island, N.Y., conspired with others, including a mobile medical diagnostics company that performed transcranial doppler scans, to order hundreds of medically unnecessary TCD scans in exchange for kickbacks from 2013 through 2019.
