New Jersey Joins Other States With NextGen Bar Exam in July 2028

New Jersey is joining states that are switching to the NextGen bar exam for test-takers starting in July 2028.

It’s the latest of more than 40 jurisdictions flocking to the National Conference of Bar Examiners new offering, as the testmaker retires its “Uniform Bar Examination” after states’ February 2028 exams.

• A state committee found test portability key in picking NextGen, because a portable score makes multiple tests easier to take and maintains potential reciprocal licensure or recognition from other state bars.
