Katten Muchin Rosenman has named a new leader to take the helm.

Roger Furey , an IP partner in Washington, D.C., has been named chair, effective June 1, succeeding Chicago-based Vincent A.F. Sergi , who led Katten for 21 years.

Furey, 61, joined Katten in 2001 and most recently served as managing partner of the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. He is also a member of the executive committee, compensation committee and board of directors, where he will continue to sit as chair.

Sergi, 69, will remain with Katten as chairman emeritus, focusing on strategic growth of the firm, primarily in California, New York and Texas, the firm said.

Furey said in a statement that he looks forward to “building on (the) momentum” created by Sergi, who oversaw its growth of Katten through a merger, lateral additions and international expansion. In 2002, Chicago-based Katten Muchin & Zavis merged with New York-based Rosenman & Colin, to form what is now Katten Muchin Rosenman.

Today, Katten has more than 600 lawyers in the United States, London and Shanghai, in practices such as intellectual property, real estate, environmental law, corporate, trusts and estates, among others.
