A federal judge rejected an emergency plea from the Colorado Republican Party to stop the mailing of ballots to unaffiliated voters for the state’s June 30 primaries.

US District Court for the District of Colorado Judge Philip A. Brimmer denied a motion from the state party that sought to block the state’s nearly two million independents from participating in the Republican or Democratic primaries. The challengers were demanding remedies outside Colorado law, and were requesting alterations too close to the election, he said.
