N.Y. Banking Regulator Hires Ex-IRS Criminal Chief as Top Lawyer

New York State’s financial regulator hired Richard Weber, who once oversaw the Internal Revenue Service’s criminal division, as its top lawyer.

Weber will serve as general counsel at the Department of Financial Services, Superintendent Linda Lacewell said Tuesday in a written statement. His “extensive leadership experience and depth of legal knowledge will be vital in helping the state emerge stronger and safer” from the Covid-19 crisis, Lacewell said.
