Missouri Cases Test Whether Counties Can ‘Stack’ Marijuana Taxes

A Missouri court has set May 9 to hear one of two lawsuits that may determine whether counties can “stack” their own recreational marijuana taxes on top of city taxes.

“Taxes get piled on top of each other all the time, but state governments elsewhere have clarified who can add a tax. This is a case of Missouri clarifying that,” said Adam Hoffer, director of excise tax policy at the Tax Foundation.
