Milbank is hiring four intellectual property litigators from Irell & Manella, including managing partner David Gindler.
Gary Frischling, Lauren Drake and John Lu round out the partner team joining Milbank’s litigation and arbitration group in Los Angeles. Each incoming litigator has experience representing clients from life sciences and technology.
“This team will allow us to serve our clients in ‘bet-the-company’ litigations involving intellectual property issues,” Milbank Chairman Scott A. Edelman said in a statement.
Gindler will head Milbank’s intellectual property litigation and licensing group. He became Irell & Manella’s managing partner in January, replacing Ellisen Turner, who had the job for a year.
Gindler’s past clients include MTV Networks, Paramount Pictures, Aon Corporations and Columbia University. He was a principal trial attorney representing the City of Hope National Medical Center when it won $302 million in compensatory damages in a lawsuit over Genentech’s failure to pay royalties on technology that helped to create the biotechnology industry. That award was upheld on appeal.
Frischling focuses on complex intellectual property disputes, including patent, copyright and trademarks. Drake has represented clients in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Lu represented clients in matters involving patent infringement, biosimilars, ANDA litigation and licensing disputes.
