Microsoft has promoted 18-year veteran Cari Benn to take over as chief privacy officer, she said in a LinkedIn post Friday.
Benn currently serves as associate general counsel for privacy and accessibility regulatory affairs. Before that she was assistant chief privacy officer. She will take on a portfolio that includes an increasingly complex landscape of privacy and AI regulation.
The hiring follows the announcement earlier this month that outgoing chief privacy officer Julie Brill would retire at the end of July. Brill said she planned to continue working with Microsoft as a consultant.
Microsoft declined to comment.
