A group of property owners convinced the Michigan Supreme Court to hear arguments on their petition arguing the city of Birmingham improperly levied special assessments to fund infrastructure improvements.
New 555 Commercial LLC and related companies want the justices to overturn a 2024 appeals court ruling that the city commission had the authority to impose $454,000 in special assessments because it found that the properties would receive aesthetic and safety benefits from the project. The justices agreed Friday to hold oral arguments on the owners’ petition for review.
