Michael Best & Friedrich has merged with Los Angeles-based venture law firm O&A., PC, giving it new reach into the California market.

Milwaukee-headquartered Michael Best closed the O&A deal July 1, the firm said Tuesday.
O&A has eight lawyers, who focus on advising startups, according to its website.

“Establishing a presence in California was critical to allow us to better serve our clients, especially in the areas of employment, technology, intellectual property, and litigation, in addition to venture capital,” Michael Best’s managing partner David Krutz said in a statement. “We can offer them continuity of service at the rates and value they expect.”

Michael Best has more than 300 lawyers across 18 offices including Colorado, Illinois, North Carolina, and Texas following the merger. O&A founder Dan Offner will be managing partner of the firm’s Los Angeles office.

The tie-up also includes Michael Best buying an O&A proprietary online software service, aimed at helping entrepreneurs start companies.

Michael Best reported more than $197.2 million in gross revenue last year and doled out $748,000 profits per equity partner, according to data from the American Lawyer.
