Meta Appeals $175 Million Streaming Technology Patent Verdict

Meta Platforms Inc. is appealing a $174.5 million verdict that found the social media giant infringed two patents owned by Voxer Inc., maker of a walkie talkie app.

The company filed notice of that appeal on Tuesday, almost a month after Judge Lee Yeakel denied its motions for a retrial and judgment as a matter of law and entered final judgment in the case. In September jurors in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas found Meta used Voxer’s patented streaming technology for its Facebook Live and Instagram Live platforms.
