McGuireWoods Consulting has hired a former aide to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti as vice president of government relations.
Maximillian Reyes, who worked most recently as a legislative deputy for Los Angeles World Airports, expects to lobby state and local governments on issues ranging from transportation and defense to technology and private equity, he said in an interview.
He has worked as Garcetti’s director of economic infrastructure and also for California state legislators. His government career has prepared him for his McGuireWoods gig, he said.
“This will be a great opportunity to work outside a government office,” Reyes said.
The consulting firm is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the law firm McGuireWoods, which has its largest office in Richmond, Va. The consultancy has offices in Florida, Texas, and Illinois, among other states.
Reyes said he will report to Breelyn Pete, who served as Garcetti’s deputy mayor for legislative and external affairs before making the jump to McGuireWoods Consulting in October.
Reyes “has a keen understanding of the challenges companies face in navigating the complex economic issues of one of the world’s most important transfer points,” Pete said in a firm statement.
Garcetti’s second term as mayor ends when his successor, Karen Bass, is sworn in Dec. 11.
