Maurene Comey Suit Over DOJ Firing Can Proceed, Judge Rules

Former federal prosecutor Maurene Comey can proceed with a lawsuit claiming she was wrongfully fired because of President Donald Trump’s political feud with her father, former FBI director James Comey, a judge ruled.

US District Judge Jesse Furman on Tuesday rejected the Justice Department’s argument that Maurene Comey’s claims needed to first be heard by an administrative board. Furman noted that the department asserted a right to fire Comey under Article II of the Constitution, which establishes the office of president and the executive branch.
