Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Justice Elspeth Cypher will retire from the court in January 2024 to pursue teaching at Boston College Law School, the court announced Monday.
Cypher has served on the Supreme Judicial Court as an associate justice since March 2017.
Cypher’s retirement will create the first opening on the bench since Gov. Maura Healey (D) took office. The current bench was appointed entirely by Healey’s Republican predecessor, Charlie Baker.
