Marriott’s Reduced Tax Valuation Upheld by Missouri High Court

The owner of the Kansas City Airport Marriott will keep its lower property tax valuation after the Missouri Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected constitutional challenges by the county assessor and school district.

The court affirmed the $6.14 million valuation of the property for 2016, which the state tax commission arrived at by subtracting the value of personal property and the cost of new construction and improvements from the $8.5 million price the owner paid for the hotel in 2015. The Platte County assessor initially valued the hotel at $11.2 million.
