Marriott Awarded $8 Million in Trademark, Robocall Scam Lawsuit

A telemarketer and a timeshare resort in Mexico collectively owe Marriott International Inc. $8 million in damages for using its trademarks in over 66 million robocalls between 2018 and 2022, a federal judge said.

The hotel chain deserves the maximum award allowed by federal trademark law because of the extensive and willful use by Vallarta Gardens Private Beach Club & Spa Private Residence Club and telemarketing firm Cancun Ink, according to Judge Anthony J. Trenga’s default judgment order issued Monday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
