Los Angeles Held in Contempt Over Police Force at DHS Protests

A federal judge held Los Angeles in contempt of an order governing the police department’s use of less-lethal weapons during immigration protests last summer and banned the use of launchers that send bullet-like projectiles.

“Here, Plaintiffs provide evidence that Defendants used 40mm munitions on protestors who did not pose an immediate threat of violence of physical harm, did not provide warnings before using the munitions, and hit protestors in restricted areas of the body,” Judge Consuelo B. Marshall said in the US District Court for the Central District of California.
