Leon Black Loses Bid to Sanction Lawyers in Sex Assault Case (1)

A New York judge rejected Leon Black’s request to sanction lawyers representing a woman accusing the Apollo Global Management founder of sexual assault.

It’s too early in the proceedings to consider Black’s motion for sanctions against lawyers at Wigdor LLP, New York State Supreme Court Judge Suzanne Adams ruled on Tuesday.

The ruling came in a lawsuit by Cheri Pierson, who alleges that Black raped her in 2002 in disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse. Pierson’s lawyers brought the suit under a New York law that temporarily lifted the statute of limitations on crimes involving sexual violence.
