Leica Defeats University of Michigan’s Microscope Patent Suit

Leica Microsystems Inc. defeated University of Michigan’s lawsuit accusing certain microscopes of infringing a patent covering a fluorescence detection system.

The microscopes of the Danaher Corp. unit don’t infringe the university’s US Patent No. 7,277,169 because they’re configured with a filter in a way that doesn’t allow them to emit a spectrum of white light in the manner required by the invention, according to an order issued Thursday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
