DENYING FEDERAL WORKERS back pay when the shutdown ends, as the Trump administration has suggested, sets the stage for more legal fights over President Donald Trump’s efforts to control the workforce, Ian Kullgren reports.
- White House OMB head Russell Vought said, in a memo, that furloughed workers can only be paid if lawmakers designate funds specifically for that purpose at the end of a shutdown. That raises the threat of lost wages for potentially 750,000 civilian workers. The Congressional Budget Office estimates workers could be owed around $400 million in back pay for each day the shutdown continues.
